This vase is made from spaulded apple wood that had fallen after a thunderstorm. Spaulding is the process the wood goes through when many forms of fungi invade the tree in an attempt to decay the wood. Whenever a spaulded piece of wood is turner, the turner should wear a protective mask to prevent breathing the various fungi. But once turned and a finish is applied, the wood is very safe to handle. This is one of my favorite pieces due tot he fact that apple wood is very prone to cracking upon drying. but this piece stayed together in its original form. Price: $110
